Petrol Sation

Petrol Sation

We stopped in this station for coffee and stayed to have a drink. The daughter of the owner had a huge burn on her leg which she got from her motorbike, so Carsten got some bandages for her. We were talking about how we had not yet been lucky to see a leopard, to which she replied: " If you want one, they are selling one in the farm next to us".....That's Africa for you....

Village

Village

This type of constructions are the usual ones you find in Botswana and Zimbabwe. The Caprivi Strip is a stretch of land which belongs to Namibia but is bordered by Botswana and Angola. German settlers thought it could give them a link through the Zambezi River and into the Indian Ocean, but since Victoria Falls are in the way, it could not be used for navigation.

Finally hippos!!

Pink hippos

Pink hippos

Hippos don't have sweat glands and their skin needs to be always wet, so that's why they spend all day in the water and only come out to grass when the sun goes down or in the early morning. To prevent sunburn they secrete a thick red substance which acts as a suncream and also helps them to prevent infections from wounds. This hippo looks pink because he has been outside of the water for long and his body is secreting this red substance.
